The Department of Safety and Risk Management currently offers the courses listed below:

Driver Awareness

Course Length: 1 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: Employees who drive GSU owned vehicles should attend. Mandatory for some Departments)

This course outlines the policies and procedures for the use of State vehicles at GSU. During this presentation we will teach the participants how to use fuel cards, the importance of being aware while driving, and how to use and operate state vehicles.

 

Auto Liability

Course Length: 1 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: GSU staff, faculty, grad assistants and volunteers who drive their personal vehicles for GSU business)

This course describes the guidelines for GSU staff, faculty, grad assistants and volunteers that drive their personal vehicles for GSU business. This also includes information for people who rent vehicles for GSU business. Within this course we will discuss the different types of coverage one could receive. Also, this course will go into detail on what to do to comply with DOAS insurance requirements.

 

Defensive Driving – 8 Hour Course

Course Length: 8 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: GSU staff, faculty, grad assistants and spouses/children of – a voluntary program)

This course is recommended for employees who drive GSU owned vehicles or their personal vehicles for GSU business. The DDC8 Course is conducted in (2) 4-hour sessions on (2) consecutive days. Attendance and punctuality required both days to receive a certificate. May receive insurance discounts depending on your auto insurance company.

 

Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTVs)

Course Length: 1 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: GSU staff, faculty, grad assistants, volunteers who are authorized to drive a PTV i.e. golf cart, GEM car, as part of their job. MANDATORY TRAINING)

This course is required for golf cart and gem car operators. The presentation and video explains how to safely operate and use golf carts. This course emphasizes safety and proper procedures when operating a PTV. A Personal Transportation Vehicle Safety Certificate is issued for attending.

 

In’s and Out’s of Getting Your $ Money and Property Back

Course Length: 1 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: Staff and faculty that are responsible for money, property and claim reporting for employees, students and the public-at-large).

During this workshop participants will be presented with information regarding the acquisition of losses after an accident. You will be given information about the different kinds of claims, and how to receive compensation for your losses after an accident or injury. You will learn whether or not your items can be insured, and what to do in case your items are stolen or damaged. You will also learn how to file a claim, and what should be done after contacting the Department of Safety and Risk Management.

 

Managing Risks with Student Groups

Course Length: 1 hour

Fee: No fee

(Who Should Attend: Faculty, staff and student leaders involved in activities and programs at GSU).

Learn various types of risk exposures and risk controls in student group activities. Does the institution have a “duty” to protect students from harm? Do you have effective policies, procedures and by-laws in place? Look at risk management strategies for student organizations; University owned, Facilitator University or Independent only.
